NHS Innovations London Stimulates Innovation in Health Service Through New Offering Agreement Signed With Norway's Induct Software to Deploy Virtual Innovation Communities to Achieve Better Service Quality

LONDON & OSLO & BOSTON, May 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NHS Innovations London (NHSIL), and Induct Software(TM) AS (Induct), "The Open Innovation Company(TM)," today announced a long term strategic partnership Agreement under which the parties will work together to help NHSIL achieve its goal of increasing levels of healthcare innovation throughout the NHS in London and beyond.

NHS is the government funded organisation with 1.3 million employees charged with running the public healthcare system in the UK. England has nine regional NHS Innovation Hubs, the largest of which is NHS Innovations London.

The mission of the Hubs is to champion the cause of healthcare innovation and to identify, develop and commercialize innovations and Intellectual Property created by NHS staff. The multiple drivers for this activity include improved patient care, enhanced service delivery, increased business and enterprise activity and the generation of additional revenue that NHS Trusts can re-invest into patient services.

The NHS plan recognizes the need for the NHS to develop as an organization that has innovation at the heart of its business. As a result of this policy and the success of its Xpedite(R) Innovations Management process, NHSIL has seen an upsurge of interest in approaches that increase healthcare innovation, knowledge sharing, and cooperation. As a first step, NHSIL has initiated a pilot program deploying Induct's virtual open Innovation Communities throughout Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust (PCT), which will achieve the increased levels of coordination necessary to deliver integrated healthcare.

"Faced with real budget cuts, the NHS must deliver higher quality care for less.

This requires innovation to be installed throughout the organization," said Dr.

David Chilvers, CEO of NHS Innovations London. "NHSIL is moving beyond product innovation to support the new agenda in healthcare. The necessary improvements in operational performance and in service innovation can only be achieved when all employees are systematically engaged - in surfacing challenges, offering ideas, shaping solutions, and working together to implement these improvements.

We believe that our partnership with Induct will enable us to help NHS healthcare organizations to realize these goals." "We are already seeing strong interest from other parts of the NHS system for solutions like Induct that enable employees to innovate together by increasing engagements between healthcare stakeholders," continued Chilvers. "We envisage that Induct's software platform will be at the heart of everyone-driven, online innovation communities focused on ideas for operational improvement and service innovation in healthcare, in London and beyond. The management of these communities can facilitate the rapid diffusion and adoption of best practice in healthcare." Induct revolutionizes the way that companies think about innovation. Based on the pioneering work of UC Berkeley Professor Henry Chesbrough, author of the book 'Open Innovation,' and one of the acknowledged leaders in the open innovation field, Induct integrates Enterprise 2.0 technology and social networking concepts with a flexible and customizable innovation process management framework. The result is a 'Software as a Service' (SaaS) platform that allows organizations to easily practice true open innovation through the creation of virtual Innovation Communities.

"We are looking forward to working closely with NHSIL as they continue their mission to deliver better quality healthcare in a more cost efficient manner through increased levels of innovation and the identification and evidencing of best practice" said Alf Martin Johansen, Chairman and founder of Induct Software, AS. "Healthcare innovation leaders like NHSIL have lots of real world experience that can only be gained by working on a daily basis with every facet of healthcare infrastructures. We believe that NHSIL's domain expertise will help us on an ongoing basis to deliver the best possible Web-based healthcare innovation experience."
