LONDON & OSLO & BOSTON, May 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NHS Innovations London (NHSIL), and Induct Software(TM) AS (Induct), "The Open Innovation Company(TM)," today announced a long term strategic partnership Agreement under which the parties will work together to help NHSIL achieve its goal of increasing levels of healthcare innovation throughout the NHS in London and beyond.
NHS is the government funded organisation with 1.3 million employees charged with running the public healthcare system in the UK. England has nine regional NHS Innovation Hubs, the largest of which is NHS Innovations London.
The mission of the Hubs is to champion the cause of healthcare innovation and to identify, develop and commercialize innovations and Intellectual Property created by NHS staff. The multiple drivers for this activity include improved patient care, enhanced service delivery, increased business and enterprise activity and the generation of additional revenue that NHS Trusts can re-invest into patient services.
The NHS plan recognizes the need for the NHS to develop as an organization that has innovation at the heart of its business. As a result of this policy and the success of its Xpedite(R) Innovations Management process, NHSIL has seen an upsurge of interest in approaches that increase healthcare innovation, knowledge sharing, and cooperation. As a first step, NHSIL has initiated a pilot program deploying Induct's virtual open Innovation Communities throughout Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust (PCT), which will achieve the increased levels of coordination necessary to deliver integrated healthcare.
