Prudential named a "Top 50 Company for Diversity" Employee Resource Groups and nonprofit board service enriches the employee experience

NEWARK, N.J., May 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU) was named one of the "Top 50 Companies for Diversity" by DiversityInc for the 10th consecutive year. DiversityInc recognized Prudential for its CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications and supplier diversity. It also acknowledged Prudential for its work/life programs and corporate citizenship.

"It's an honor to receive this recognition once again," said Emilio Egea, vice president and chief diversity officer. "Prudential has been committed to diversity for many years and remains dedicated to ensuring diverse perspectives, ideas and people are valued." Vernay Simmons knows all about Prudential's commitment to nurturing an inclusive workplace. "Prudential has been a great place to work at every life stage," said Simmons. "When my husband and I started our family, I used the on-site childcare center so I could be close to my daughter. When I went back to school to complete my MBA, the tuition reimbursement program provided much appreciated financial support. To say that Prudential values diversity is an understatement.

As an employee, I've experienced that commitment first hand." Simmons has had a wealth of experiences since joining the company spanning operations, customer communications, and marketing. She has leveraged this background in her current role managing projects for seven business areas in Prudential Investment Management. Simmons also serves as the director of community outreach for Prudential's Black Leadership Forum, one of five business resource groups that provide employees with professional development and networking opportunities and serve as a resource for developing and implementing business initiatives.

"By participating in the Black Leadership Forum, I've had exposure beyond my current business unit and have been provided with another platform to enhance my leadership skills," said Simmons. "I've served as the project manager for the forum's annual symposium, which elevated my skills. Our Chairman and CEO and other senior leaders participated in the symposium, so it was another opportunity to interact with the company's senior management team." Simmons also serves on the board of the Jersey Explorer Children's Museum. "I was the first one in my family to graduate from college and I have a passion for sharing my story and the importance of education with young people. I get an opportunity to do so as a board member for the museum and through my role as community outreach director for the Black Leadership Forum. I'm fortunate to work for a company that values giving back to the community and supports my efforts to do the same." Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU), a financial services leader with approximately $693 billion of assets under management as of March 31, 2010, has operations in the United States, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
