WASHINGTON, May 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury Department supports tougher rules to ensure that banks cannot engage in high-risk speculative trading, the measure's sponsor said on Monday. "The Department of the Treasury is supportive" of the proposal, which would modify a sweeping rewrite of financial regulations currently being debated in the Senate, Senator Jeff Merkley said at a news conference.
