Report: Semiconductor Revenue to Jump 27%

As tech geeks eagerly await Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in San Jose, Calif. next week, we thought we’d look at the stuff that goes into the iPhone, iPad and other devices – chips.

According to research firm Gartner, global semiconductor revenue will grow by 27% this year. To talk about the growth, Novellus CEO Richard Hill joined us on Thursday's Fast Money. He says it remains to be seen if Europe’s debt crisis will have an affect on that growth. The Continent is not a hub for chip production, but consumer spending will be something to watch.

Most of Novellus' business, Hill says, comes from Asia. While some are concerned with China, Hill points out that consumer spending there is healthy. Their GDP is growing and they’re spending money on electronics, he asserts.
