"AN AMERICAN GREED SPECIAL PRESENTATION: MOB MONEY" is a one-hour Special Presentation from the producers of "American Greed" that focuses on the way the mob operates. From its "business as usual,” loan-sharking, labor racketeering, illegal gambling, and extortion to its recent invasion into Wall Street.
The way the mob does business isn’t all that different than any other big corporation. It’s how mobsters deal with, or get rid of the competition, that makes them some of the most violent criminals around.
In this hour the focus is on the DeCavalcante Family - which ran in the shadows of the powerful "Five Families" of New York City. "Vinny Ocean” Palermo was a soldier who would come to lead the DeCavalcante Family, which operated in the Garden State of New Jersey. They were known by the derogatory term "Farmers" because of their Jersey roots, but they were just as deadly as their New York cousins. This Family was known to be the basis for the HBO hit series, "The Sopranos." "Mob Money" chronicles the rise and fall of this Mafia family business. Before the DeCavalcante’s day in the sun was over Palermo would become boss, create new businesses and eventually turn FBI informant.
In the end, 40 members of the DeCavalcante Family were arrested and tried. As for Vinny Ocean? He went into the witness protection program.
