CNBC Launches New Weather Service from the Weather Channel

CNBC, the leading business and financial news channel, today announced that it has launched new on-air weather updates on its Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA) network, in partnership with The Weather Channel (TWC). TWC has built the television vignettes and segments and will provide weather data and regional weather updates.

Beginning this month, graphical weather updates will be provided for the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and the United States and will air twice an hour during European peak programming and once an hour at other times, just before the top of the hour, making it easy for viewers to tune in to.

The Weather Channel has customised the graphical styling of the updates to match CNBC’s new on-air look and focused on key financial cities in each region.

Regional weather updates will follow the flow of the financial markets around the world. For example, viewers will see more updates from Asia Pacific or Europe when those stock markets are open and most active.

Paul Maraviglia, Vice President Sales, EMEA at CNBC said, “Adding regular weather updates from The Weather Channel to our schedule is a useful addition for our viewers, providing them with all the business news headlines and regional weather at the top of every hour. It is also a great platform for advertisers to target an affluent and difficult to reach audience, many of whom are regular travellers who will tune in to get regular updates.”

CNBC is currently in discussions for an exclusive sponsor of the weather updates, where a sponsor would receive credits in the opening and closing sequences.

“The partnership brings together The Weather Channel, the most trusted name in weather on all platforms – television, mobile and PC – and CNBC, the leading business and financial news channel,” said Ross Webster, managing director of advertising sales in the UK market for The Weather Channel Companies. “Viewers will receive the most accurate weather information in the form of The Weather Channel products and data.”

Since 1982, The Weather Channel has developed an impressive multiplatform brand in the United States. TWC has worked to expand its international brand as well with a series of international Web and Mobile sites, targeted for the UK, France, Germany, Brazil, India and Spanish-speaking countries. TWC also offers an award-winning iPhone application in English, French, Spanish and Chinese. TWC continues its commitment with new technology, products and advertising solutions.
