Quiz: QUIZ: George Foreman

Question 2 of 10

What government program does George Foreman credit with leading him away from a life of crime?

  1. Economic Opportunity Act
  2. Head Start
  3. Job Corps
  4. Upward Bound

George Foreman grew up in abject poverty in Houston's 5th Ward, a rough neighborhood by any standard. He regularly skipped school and bullied other children, becoming a full-blown hoodlum by the age of 15. Fortunately, he joined the Job Corps, a program for troubled youth that was established during the Johnson administration as part of the Great Society. In the Corps he met boxing coach Doc Broaddus, who encouraged Foreman to step into the ring. The rest is history.
