It’s been a tough week for the US markets, with the Dow tumbling more than 3 percent. So what can you do to boost your portfolio into next week? Peter Andersen, portfolio manager at Congress Asset Management, and Wayne Kaufman, chief market analyst at John Thomas Financial, shared their best plays.
ConocoPhillips —“It’s been undergoing some restructuring lately,” Andersen told CNBC.
“It’s going to raise $20 billion from selling some assets and pay down $10 billion in debt. And the other $10 billion is going into stock buybacks…You’re looking at a $70-$75 stock right now.”
Motorola —“The race between the Droid and [Apple’s ] iPhone is a very exciting one,” he said.
“Motorola's got $8 billion in cash and the Droid has been selling a million units a week now…[there’s] tremendous momentum in that product.”
PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish —“Dollar is rallying and it's a nice short-term trade,” said Kaufman.
TRW Automotive —“They’re really on a roll, keep knocking the cover off the ball when they announce earnings and there’s a lot of tailwinds for them,” he said.
Nordson —“It’s an earnings play for next Thursday,” Kaufman explained. “Their order book was growing dramatically through May so they’re going to be a good indication of what’s happening—this is going to be a very good barometer.”
