Kristin Davis, the madam who ran the prostitution ring patronized by disgraced former governor Eliot Spitzer, is running for governor of New York State.
What you may not know is that Davis got her start working at a California hedge fund, Brookhaven Capital. Her campaign platform is decidedly pro-hedge fund.
In an interview with AR magazine's Lawrence Delevigne, Davis lays out her positions (no pun intended):
- For hedge fund marketing. Now that large hedge funds are forced to register with the SEC, they should be allowed to market themselves as investment vehicles.
- Against taxes. Davis opposes both stock transfer taxes and New York City's income taxes, which she says are responsible for driving hedge funds to Connecticut. She also wants to cut the state corporate tax rate in half.
- Pension fund reform. She advocates a board of trustees to administer the state pension fund, worried that the current system encourages corruption.
Resist any jokes you feel you want to make about "back office support" and read the interview.
