United Water Names Patrick Cairo Senior Vice President of Corporate Development

HARRINGTON PARK, N.J., Nov 12, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- United Water announced that Patrick Cairo has been named senior vice president of corporate development. In this capacity he will oversee business development activities related to water, wastewater and waste services in the regulated and contract services marketplaces. He will coordinate these efforts with sister company, Utility Service, which offers long-term asset management contracts for water storage facilities with municipal and industrial clients.

Cairo will also continue in his role as executive vice president of business and institutional relations for SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT NORTH AMERICA, United Water's parent company.

His 40-year career in the water industry includes responsibilities for both U.S.

and international operations. "Cairo has a wealth of experience in business development, operations, research, government affairs and stakeholder relations," said Bertrand Camus, CEO. "These strengths will enable him to help municipalities develop solutions to the serious infrastructure, environment and economic challenges of our time. Cairo joined United Water in 2001 and has held positions of diverse and increasing responsibility during his tenure. He launched his career with the Philadelphia Water Department in 1969 and was appointed deputy water commissioner and chief operating officer in 1986.

He serves on the board of governors of the World Water Council. He is a former board member and current member of the National Association of Water Companies.

Cairo is also a member of the National Council of Public Private Partnerships, the U.S. Conference of Mayors Urban Water Council, the International Water Association, the AWWA and the Water Environment Federation.

Cairo holds both a B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Water and Wastewater Operator in Pennsylvania. He has published over 60 papers and articles on water management and technology and innovation.
