First-time claims for jobless benefits increase by nearly 400 last week in Louisiana.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission says, that for the week ending Nov. 6, there were 3,974 of the newly unemployed seeking benefits. That's up from the previous week's total of 3,596.
For the comparable week ending Nov. 7, 2009, there were 5,488 first-time claims.
The state says there were 47,975 continued weeks of benefits claimed last week, down from 48,599 the previous week. A year ago, the unemployed in Louisiana claimed 60,878 additional weeks of jobless payments.
