NY Town Nixes WalMart's All-Night Request

Officials in a suburban Rochester town have rejected a local WalMart store's request to remain open through Thanksgiving night into the morning of Black Friday.

Rochester media outlets report that the town of Victor Planning Board on Tuesday turned down Walmart's application to remain open past its usual 11 p.m. closing time. Normal business hours for the store are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The world's largest retailer announced this week that most of its stores would open at midnightthe night of Thanksgiving to give shoppers a head-start on hunting for holiday bargains.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that the Victor Walmart will be the only one in New York that won't stay open overnight on Thanksgiving. Nearby homeowners had opposed the store's request to stay open all night.
