UK PM's Aide Resigns After Glossing Over Austerity

A senior adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron resigned on Friday after saying most Britons had "never had it so good" even though many face benefit cuts or unemployment due to a public spending squeeze.

David Young, Cameron's adviser on small businesses, caused a media and political storm by playing down the seriousness of the harshest economic times in decades.

"He has offered his resignation and we have accepted it," a spokeswoman for Cameron said.
