Halftime—Analyst: 4 Retail Names To Buy On This Dip

After a slew of retailers reported weaker-than-expected sales figures for December, the retail space sold-off by midday trading on Thursday. And according to one retail analyst, several retail names are worth looking at on this pullback.

In particular, Citigroup's Deborah Weinswig likes Family Dollar , Macy's and Target . All three companies failed to meet expectations when they last reported earnings and Family Dollar gave lackluster second-quarter and full-year forecasts. But Weinswig remains bullish on all three stocks.

Lower margin food has been a real standout for both Family Dollar and Target, as both companies are taking market share from grocers. Meanwhile, Macy's Internet sales were up by 28.4 percent.

In addition to these plays, Weinswig also praised J.C. Penney . She thinks the Plano, Texas-based department store will be a serious competitor in the year ahead, as it's recently turned its business around with new merchants and management. It also has had positive comps and strong online sales.

UNUSUAL ACTIVITY IN FRONTLINE

In the options market, there has been "very strong activity" in Frontline, reports Jon Najarian of optionMONSTER.com. Options traders are "aggressively buying" the Feb. 29 calls.

While Najarian likes Frontline , Veracruz founder Steve Cortes said he remains bearish on commodities because the shippers have not responded. Frontline is doing well today, he explained, but it hasn't had a good six months, much less a good year. Cortes added that the Baltic Freight Index, which measures changes in the cost to trasport raw materials by sea, has not been keeping pace with the recent run in commodities.

Based in Hamilton, Bermuda, Frontline primarily transports crude oil around the world.

CALL THE CLOSE

Najarian is pleased with the jobs report, so he's a buyer of the market. Stuart Frankel's Steve Grasso and Drakon Capital's Guy Adami, on the other hand, are sellers of the market right now.
