Following is an excerpt from Maria Bartiromo's interview with Sanofi-Aventis CEO Chris Viehbacher today on CNBC's "Closing Bell." Viehbacher discusses whether Sanofi-Aventis plans to raise its bid for Genzyme.

BARTIROMO: Are you going to raise the bid for Genzyme?
VIEHBACHER: I think we've made a very compelling bid so far. As you've seen, we're in discussions now with Genzyme to see if we can bridge a gap, looking at the drug for MS as you've seen, and so we're focusing on a tool such as a CVR (ph) so we're making progress, but I think both sides would say we've still got some ways to go.
