Citigroup Spawns Huge 'Bernie Madoff' Trade

One financial giant has engendered a whole sub-industry of trading in it alone: Citigroup.

Reporter Bob Pisani analyzes several ways investors and traders are playing Citi , including working the spreads and taking advantage of the rebates.

"It's the rebate that's driving the trading game for many traders," Pisani notes. "It's the low price and high volume" that makes Citi particularly useful for rebate plays.

FYI: the rebate system was initiated about 20 years ago, by "an ambitious guy" named Bernie Madoff.

(See Pisani's previous reportage on this topic.)
