Savvis CEO: 'Very Difficult' to Say Whether We'll Remain Independent

It is "very difficult to say" whether Savvis will remain independent in 12 months, company chairman and CEO Jim Ousley told CNBC on Monday.

Shares of the information technology services provider rose almost 14 percent on Friday after speculation that it could be the next takeover target a day after Verizon Communications said it planned to buy rival Terremark Worldwide for $1.4 billion.

"There is a lot of consolidation going on," Ousley said. "But right now, we're running business just like we did last week."

Ousley said the valuation at which Terremark was taken out was "very attractive." His company, however, would not make an acquisition at current valuations unless it had "tremendous synergies." Bring a growth industry, he said it's not unusual for a company to leverage the valuation.

Going forward, Ousley thinks more mergers and acquisitions are ahead. The industry is "very capital intensive," he explained, so companies will need more and more capital to grow data centers around the world. To do that, businesses will have to consolidate.
