Nasdaq at 40 / Inside Nasdaq's Hack Attack

The Nasdaq is certainly making headlines lately. Whether it's a celebration of the exchanges 40th anniversary or the latest on the hack attack; Fast Money has you covered from every angle.

THE HACK ATTACK

News that computer hackers had infiltrated the operator of the Nasdaq Stock Exchange rippled across Wall Street this week as investors grappled to understand what happened.

As you may know, over the week-end Nasdaq OMX Group said that it found "suspicious files" on its U.S. computer servers.

Understandably, there's concern on the Street, explains Fast Money host Melissa Lee, "that by hacking into the 'director's desk' it could allow the hackers to obtain internal information that could have given them an inside edge."

In a live interview NASDAQ OMX Executive VP Eric Noll tells us there are two important things that investors should know about the hack attack.

- Nasdaq's trading enterprise is completely separate (from the director's desk) and it was not touched or attacked in this incident
- At no time was any information compromised.

"Once we uncovered the hack in the system, we immediately isolated it, closed the system down and turned it over to officials for investigation," Noll tells us. "We moved very quickly to isolate the incident and keep it from growing."

The motive behind the hack attack still remains unclear.
