Sector Trade: Alkermes CEO Richard Pops

The Fast Money traders are putting Alkermes on the radar after the firm’s latest clinical trials produced some very promising results.

Specifically, a clinical trial showed one of its drugs can relieve constipation caused by use of opioid pain medications without reducing the effectiveness of the pain drugs.

Opioid drugs are often used to treat severe chronic pain, but the drugs often cause constipation and bowel problems.

The company plans to move the drug into more advanced clinical testing by the middle of this year.

What’s the potential if this drug makes it to market?

"Over 250 million prescriptions are written each year for opioids and as much as 40% of patients have a problem with their GI systems (from the opioid medications), Alkermes CEO Richard Pops tells the desk in a live interview.
