Dow's Best 6 Day Gains Since July 2010

The Dow is up 557 points, or 4.8 percent in the last 6 trading sessions, posting its largest 6-day percent gain since July 14, 2010, when it rose 6.4 percent.

All three major US indexes are now off their lowest level this year reached on March 16. Since then, the NASDAQ is up 4.6 percent, while the S&P 500 rose 4.2 percent; both indexes posting their best 6-day percent increase since September 2010.

During the same period, the CBOE Volatility Index is down about 41%, after crossing above 31 on March 16 for the first time since July.

Alcoa, Verizon and Caterpillar are leading the way among the 30 Dow components, up 9.3, 8.4 and 7.9 percent, respectively.

Of the 10 major S&P sectors, energy and material stocks are up the most, both up about 6 percent.
