CNBC adds Mandarin language capability

Singapore, May 3, 2011 – CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, announce that it will now be providing Mandarin language international market analysis and financial news updates into China Central Television’s (CCTV) Business Channel programme, Global Connection Show. Prior to today, the business news updates were broadcast in English with Chinese subtitles.

“We are excited about this announcement as it reinforces our commitment to China and our long standing strategy of delivering global business news with local relevance whenever and wherever possible,” said Satpal Brainch, President and Managing Director, CNBC in Asia Pacific.

“China is a market that CNBC has always followed closely and one that continues to grow in importance within the global economy. The Mandarin language market updates enable us to better provide viewers across China access to the essential business news content that has made CNBC first in business worldwide," Brainch continued.

Providing the Mandarin language market updates will be CNBC’s new reporter, Li Sixuan. Li joined CNBC’s editorial team in Singapore on April 2, 2011. Prior to CNBC, Li hosted various programmes for Sichuan television and worked as an analyst for both KKR in Beijing and Lehman Brothers in Hong Kong. She holds a BA in economics and mathematics from Columbia University.

Michael Kearns, Head of News and Programming, CNBC in Asia Pacific said, "We are delighted to have Sixuan as part of the CNBC news team in Singapore. Sixuan's understanding of business and financial markets enhances our abilities in China to deliver the content that business news viewers from around the world have come to expect from CNBC.”

This announcement is one more step forward in the strengthening of the relationship between CNBC and CCTV.
