Pops & Drops: Molycorp, AK Steel...

Following are moves you might have missed. Find out why shares of Molycorp and Helix popped while Ford and AK Steel dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

Molycorp (MCP) popped 7%. According to published reports some investors are playing this rare earths company as a safety play, in much the same way they play gold and gold miners. - This stock will probably give you indigestion if you trade it, says Guy Adami.

Helix (HLX) popped 13%. The company raised its 2011 production outlook saying it expects to produce more from one of its field in the Gulf of Mexico.

Baidu (BIDU) popped 5%. The company forecast revenue well ahead of Wall Street's expectations saying large advertisers increased spending.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

General Electric (GE) dropped 3%. For the second time in 3 years the conglomerate has been unable to see its rail car unit.

Ford (F) dropped 2%. Net income fell 8 percent to $2.4 billion for the April-June period with the automaker blaming higher prices for steel. Ford also spent $400 million more on engineering and advertising new vehicles than it did a year earlier. - I'm bullish long-term, says Joe Terranova, but in the near term there could be weakness.

AK Steel (AKS) dropped 17%. The company reported second-quarter profit that missed Wall Street estimates and said it expected a sharp fall in third-quarter operating profit due to weakening steel prices and higher raw material costs. - It's a tough environment for this company, says Zach Karabell.

3M (MMM) dropped 6%. Although profits met Street expectations, results suggested profit margins may be contracting in key business units. - Not good, says Dan Nathan.
