With the President presenting a jobs plan to the nation, who wins from the potential payday?
Largely the President is expected to focus on the following:
- Extensions of Payroll Tax Cuts
- Infrastructure Spending
- Aid to States to Prevent Teacher Layoffs
- Tax Breaks for Business
- Extending Unemployment Aid
- Training for the Long-Term Unemployed
Of course, just because the President proposes these initiatives doesn't mean he can get all of them through Congress.
According to FBR policy analyst Ed Mills the proposals listed above can be grouped into buckets – what will be adopted and what won’t be adopted. Here’s how Mills thinks it breaks down:
What can be proposed and adopted
- extension of payroll tax credit
- extension of unemployment benefits
- mortgage refinance for homeowners who are underwater
What can be proposed but not adopted
- larger infrastructure spending
- aid to state governments
- tax holiday for foreign earnings
