Trading Quarter's Big Winners & Losers

Stocks rallied to finish mixed Thursday with investors wondering what's next.

With the quarter drawing to a close on Friday, it's time to take a hard look at the Q1 winners and losers.

Quarter's Worst performers:
Alpha Natural -27%
Supervalu -27%
First Solar -26%
Electronic Arts -20%
Cabot -21%

Quarter's Best Performers:
Sears +112%
Bank Of America +70%
Netflix +65%
Whirlpool +60%
Salesforce - +53%

Should you stay with what's working, or play it for a rotation out of leaders and into laggards? How should you trade it?

Guy Adami says stick with what’s working. “There’s a reason why these stocks are under- performers. If they haven’t performed on this tape, when are they going to perform? The winners should continue to win.”

Trader Mike Murphy shares the view except for one stock. “I’m nibbling on Cabot Gas,” he reveals. “I think nat gas in the long term has huge upside, but if you do go into this trade, there are strong short term headwinds.”

Trader Tim Seymour is on the other side – he’s cautious of the winners. “Typically names that outperform in this kind of move - where we see a major allocation up – are terrible companies. They were the laggards last year.”
