J.CREW AND THE MAN WHO DRESSED AMERICA

With more than 300 stores, nearly two billion dollars in sales, and even the first lady as a fan, J.Crew has become a fashion force. CNBC anchor David Faber tells the story of this growing retailer and explains what’s made this stylish, contemporary brand a success. From New York to Italy, CNBC goes inside the months-long process of conceiving, creating, and marketing a new line of clothing. J.Crew is led by CEO Millard “Mickey” Drexler, known in the fashion world as “The King of Retail” for his intuitive sense of what the public craves and for his ability to lift troubled companies to new heights. When he joined the Gap, the company was taking in roughly 400 million dollars a year; within several years he turned it into a retail giant worth $14 billion. The Bronx-born Drexler is known for his obsessive focus on detail, unflinching candor, and trusting his instincts over market research. In an interview with CNBC, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour says, “Fashion can’t ever stand still. And that’s why Mickey is so brilliant at it.”

How will J. Crew and Drexler meet the twin challenges of expansion and a rapidly changing landscape in the Internet age of retail? Find out in the CNBC original documentary, “J.Crew and the Man Who Dressed America,” premiering on CNBC on May 24th at 10PM ET/PT.
