What Are Pros Betting Against?

You know all about the stocks Wall Street loves. But which stocks do the pros absolutely hate?

William Duff Gordon director of research for financial research firm Markit has sifted through the entire S&P to find which names are attracting getting the most short interest.

Here are his results:

- Gamestop is still most shorted with 34% of shares on loan – and, he says, a squeeze candidate.

- Safeway is now 2nd on list with 30% short interest. Gordon thinks it may be caught up in the concerns vexing SuperValu.

- Yelp has a limited free float but most shares that can be shorted have been shorted.

- Netflix still ranks amongst top 15 most shorted names: short interest at 13%, up 40% in last month.

In case you’re wondering, Gordon says on average less than 3% of total shares of any given stock are ever sold short.
