Will Apple iPhone 5 Live Up to Hype?: Pros

The highly anticipated AppleiPhone 5 went on sale Friday, but is there still time to buy stock? The “Fast Money” pros weigh in.

Jon Najarian of OptionMonster.com saw continued upside in the stock, pointing out lines across the country and internationally.

“I’m long gold in Apple terms today,” he joked, adding that excitement could last into next week when sales data is released.

Najarian noted that estimates put sales of the new smartphone around 8 million units (from Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster).

“I think you buy it Tuesday next week instead of today,” he said. “This is going to be huge.”

Stephen Weiss of Short Hills Capital was less sanguine, though he also saw growth potential.

But the question lingered: “What’s the next product?” he said. “Where’s the next growth?”

Stuart Frankel’s Steve Grasso disagreed.

“I don’t think they’re really looking for a product launch so quickly,” he said, adding that focus on the iPhone 5 was plenty to keep the company’s stock hot. “I think that’s all they need right now.”

Joe Terranova of Virtus held up a brand-new iPhone 5 and dismissed talk of issues with its mapping software, which had appeared to exhibit glitches in reports this week.

“It’s totally fine,” he said. “It is incredibly faster that what you’re going to experience with the Apple iPhone 4S.”

Cutting through the hype, Jon Najarian suggested pausing before jumping into the stock.

“I think you buy it Tuesday next week,” he said, arguing that stockholders would likely be looking to sell. “Monday could be a soft day for it.”

But, he added, don’t wait too long — action in the options market are already poised to send the stock higher.
