John Stevens

John Stevens is managing director of absolute return strategies at General Motors Asset Management. He oversees the internally managed hedge fund-of-funds program, which invests on behalf of GM's pension plans, and previously was a portfolio manager in the global fixed-income group.

Stevens serves on GMAM's investment, risk management, management and IT steering committees. He is also a member of the firm's board of directors and of GM's investment policy committee, which focuses on plan-level asset allocation and liability hedging decisions.

Before joining GMAM in 1997, Stevens was a fixed-income portfolio manager at MetLife Investment Management, where he handled long-duration immunized portfolios and total return funds. He has also worked in the risk management and analytics group at BlackRock Financial Management.

He earned an A.B. from Harvard College and an MBA in finance from New York University.
