Boeing's Starliner spacecraft completes critical safety test

1:30 PM ET Mon, 4 Nov 2019

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft capsule fired its engines at a launchpad in New Mexico in a key test for astronaut safety. The test showcased how launch abort functions would work in case of an emergency, and this includes thrusters, parachutes, airbags and an anthropomorphic test dummy, which is covered in sensors, on board. It's part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, through a public-private partnership, to launch astronauts on American rockets from American soil for the first time since 2011.
