Hong Kong's Hang Seng index led gains among major markets regionally, after pro-democracy candidates surged to a landslide victory following a record voter turnout. According to the government, about 2.94 million registered electors casted votes, making it a record 71.2% turnout. Pro-democracy candidates won more than half of the 452 district council sets for the first time. These results come as the semi-autonomous Chinese territory has been shaken by anti-government protests for months.
