Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga "has the important votes" from heavyweights in the Liberal Democratic Party to succeed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, says Jeff Kingston, director of Asian Studies at Temple University, Japan. However, he says it is uncertain whether Suga's expected continuity of Abenomics and Abe's foreign policies will work well for Japan, which is in the middle of its worst economic slump on record.
