Celebrity Bachelor Pads
It's not unusual for celebrities to get married in a minute. But as illustrated by Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, these sprints to the altar don’t always work out, and it's back to the bachelor pad.
Humphries is now reportedly holing up in his custom-built man cave in Minnesota, licking his wounds and/or watching lots of football.
As with Humphries and his newfound bachelordom, bachelor pads are not just the houses of the never-married young man-about-town. As love interests and marital statuses change, so do housing needs, so divorcing men move back on their own again.
It also goes the other way, when celebrities graduate to more family-oriented housing. Suddenly a famous, single entertainer might discover the pitter-patter of little feet are imminent and then need to find a safer or more practical house to accommodate an expanding family.
What follows is a selection of 10 celebrity bachelor pads, provided by Realtor.com. Some of these homes are former single-guy houses for sale. In some cases, the bachelors recently moved in; one of the manly houses of a dashing new dad is available to rent for $18,000 a month. Almost all of them are in Los Angeles, although one famous villa is positioned on a lake in Italy.

Brad Pitt
Location: Malibu, Calif.

While Brad Pitt is not technically married, he’s not exactly a swinging single. However, there was a time before he the became the unofficial husband of Angelina Jolie and dad to several dozen children. In that time, he had a bachelor pad, and it was good. So good, in fact, that Pitt’s former midcentury modern home has recently been scooped up by that house-hustling talk-show maven Ellen DeGeneres and her lovely bride, Portia de Rossi, several months after they revealed the $49 million price tag on their much larger compound in Beverly Hills.
This new home is actually another compound composed of two houses, according to Realtor’s blog. The main home’s glass walls prominently display the views of the Pacific and in the other direction, Point Mugu State Park. The property, which dates to 1962, has recently been renovated with bamboo flooring and a gleaming updated stainless kitchen.
Sean Avery
Location: West Hollywood, Calif.

Earlier in 2011, the New York Rangers hockey player Sean Avery listed his Spanish-style house, which is currently off the market. The bungalow is a tiny one by celebrity standards, and it came with an equally small (by celeb standards) price tag of $859,000. That asking price was significantly less than the $989,000 he bought the home for in 2005 when he was playing for the L.A. Kings.
The house features a wrap-around deck with treetop views, and the modest kitchen looks suitable for rustling up boxed macaroni and cheese.
George Clooney
Location: Laglio, Italy

Perma-bachelor and professional dreamboat George Clooney has lived in this "Ocean’s Twelve"-worthy abode, Villa Oleandra, on Northern Italy’s Lake Como since 2001. In 2010, a story in The Telegraph and elsewhere said the house was up for sale for 30 million euros (approx. $38,850,000) but this was denied in a typically charming statement from Clooney ("End of another riveting day of false news."), who continues to woo women and entertain the A-list at Villa Oleandra. (However, that price wasn't too far off for Laglio lakefront property: the villa next door went on the market for $35 million last year.)
Until guests like the Beckhams or Matt Damon or Cindy Crawford describe the interior of the villa to the press, we only have glimpses from "Ocean’s Twelve" as examples. A possible explanation: The Telegraph story reports that Clooney-seeking gawkers became such an issue in Laglio that the mayor drew up legislation to prevent more than three people from gathering at any time within sight of the villa, or risk a 19 euro fine.
Chris Brown

Singer Chris Brown recently moved following a brief and troubled stint at his West Hollywood condo to a modern architectural home in the Hollywood Dell area, above Lake Hollywood. Designed by Jay Vanos, the futuristic house features an elevator from the garage to the pool area and to his bedroom and Crestron touch-screen smart home controls.
Brown’s ex-flame, the pop singer Rihanna, is experiencing a case of bad real estate mojo herself, as she is embroiled in a lawsuit and offering her house at a loss, as detailed here.
Ashton Kutcher

Before the star of "Dude, Where’s My Car?" became the third dude to end a marriage with Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher was the subject of multiple rumors in 2011, some of them concerning infidelities. On a related note, one of the final rumors of the year had him touring this modern architectural stunner as his potential new bachelor pad.
Perched above Lake Hollywood, the mansion has a "floating" dining room extending out from the main structure and many outdoor spaces to take in the panoramic views. The house, built in 2007, comes with all the contemporary luxury amenities: private theater, spa-like master bath, gourmet kitchen, gym and massage room.
Ryan Phillippe

“Cruel Intentions” star Ryan Phillippe bought this architectural property with Asian flair after his divorce from Reese Witherspoon. He put it on the market a year ago, and when it didn’t sell, he relisted it in December 2011 for the same price.
It’s located near the Sunset Strip and features include a canopied fire pit overlooking the city, as well as a pool, sauna and waterfalls to help ease the stress of a tough real estate market. Also on the property are a two-story gym, an art studio, and a media room.
Matthew Perry

Look at this guy. Matthew Perry has gone from a TV show that starred unbelievable real estate (we know it was somebody’s grandmother’s apartment but NO ONE who is broke has an apartment like that in NYC) to owning a collection of unbelievable real estate.

In early 2011, “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Orlando Bloom, who had fathered a child with supermodel wife Miranda Kerr, put his single days further behind him by putting his ultra-masculine black-painted bachelor pad on the rental market. In addition to being known for its unconventional color, Bloom’s place was one of the celebrity homes famously targeted by The Bling Ring.
The compound, which dates to 1940, is gated with cameras to hopefully keep out future burglars. It comes fully furnished and has a pool, outdoor dining area, a gourmet cherrywood kitchen and walk-in closets.

The lead singer of Good Charlotte’s remodeled 1930s-era Spanish Colonial house was once featured on “MTV Cribs.” More recently in 2011, it was up for rent, although it is currently off the market.
The house came fully furnished as a rental, and boasted vaulted ceilings and two enormous walk-in closets. It has a big entrance patio and a large covered lanai out back. Madden is now married to Nicole Richie, and the pair have two children.

However, like some bachelors, maybe it just needs some cleaning up and a good suit. And maybe the “Glee” star is too busy filming his smash hit TV show in nearby Paramount Studios to care about domestic aesthetics.
