Married couples—newlyweds, same-sex couples and those whose earnings have changed dramatically in the past year—often have the same question about the most cost-efficient ways to file their taxes. Number one: Should we file married jointly or separately?

Parents of adult children, particularly high income earners, often wonder whether to claim working children as dependents.
