Major bust at LAX

Police raided homes and work places to bust an LAX theft ring that for months stole an uncounted amount of valuables from luggage, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The thieves would often sell the items on Craigslist, Los Angeles International Airport police told the Times.

"Basically everything of value—be it electronics, jewelry and items—that could be stolen in seconds would be removed from bags," LAX Police Chief Pat Gannon said. "They'd just open up the suitcases and rifle through them and pocket valuables."

Police on Wednesday night arrested six people and said as many as 25 could be involved.

Similar luggage heists have occurred at LAX in 2007, when 11 airport workers were accused of stealing from passengers' bags, including Paris Hilton's $100,000 watch, the Times said.
