School officials in turn are seeing a drop in unpaid intern slots available, offsetting an increase in the number of paid internships.
The paid-intern trend among some start-ups follows moves made by larger firms. While some have begun to pay interns, other companies have put their entire intern programs on hold. And the uncertainty is affecting thousands of college students in the city.
