Putin calls CNBC's Geoff Cutmore 'scary'

Since returning to power two years ago, Russia's President Vladimir Putin has had to tackle war in Syria, the crisis in Ukraine and worrying signs of an economic slowdown in his own country - more than enough to tackle for any head of state.

But could there be something -- or someone else -- that unnerves him?

After a 90-minute-plus session moderated by CNBC's Geoff Cutmore at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which covered the upcoming Ukrainian elections, prospects for business in Russia and human rights, Putin thanked Cutmore but had something else to say.

"I don't know what your (specialism) is, what area you're professional in," he said, speaking through an interpreter.

"On the one hand you're a very scary person and on the other hand you're a person who has managed to create a very businesslike atmosphere and a very constructive atmosphere in our panel. Thank you."
