The little truck that could make the hall of fame

Source: Hess

As the Hess toy truck celebrates its 50th anniversary, the oil company wants to get the iconic green-and-white toy truck into the National Toy Hall of Fame, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

Also competing for the hall of fame's decision, which comes out Thursday, are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, American Girl dolls and Fisher-Price Little People.

Other contenders include little green army men and Rubik's Cube, a leader in an online poll, the newspaper said.

"That's stiff competition," a Hess spokeswoman told the Journal.

Speedway will take over Hess' 1,200-plus gas stations next year, meaning the green toy trucks will soon only be available online, the paper said. The closures come as Hess is shifting its focus to finding and extracting oil.
