Ukraine's hryvnia hits new all-time low

Ukraine's central bank said the average rate set at a daily dollar auction on Tuesday was 15.8817 hryvnia per $1, a fresh all-time low, as a fraying ceasefire in eastern regions weighs on the currency.

The rate on Monday was 15.2242 per dollar. The central bank abandoned an unofficial peg of 12.95 to the dollar a week ago, leaving the hryvnia in free-fall as tensions between government forces and rebels escalated.

It said on Monday it believed the fall would now stop and the currency would settle between 15 and 16 to the dollar. The latest figure remains within this forecast.

The rate, which is published on the central bank's Reuters terminal page, is based on an average of rates from different banks.
