Founded in 1867 by Ignatz Lederer, the company that is now named Jungbunzlauer initially operated as a spirits distillery.

Today the Basel, Switzerland, based business claims to be a leading manufacturer of products including citric acid, lactics, gluconates, sweeteners and xanthan gum for the food, pharmaceutical, beverage and cosmetic industries, among others.

The company has roughly 900 employees worldwide, manufacturing plants in Germany, Austria, Canada and France, as well as clients in over 130 countries.

Family is central to the Jungbunzlauer way of doing business. After Ignatz Lederer's death, his sons took over the running of the company.

In 1967 Karl Kahane acquired the business, and Jungbunzlauer is still owned by the Kahane family, with Alexander Kahane and Marie-Rose Kahane acting as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the board respectively.
