Taylor Swift just made history with "1989." (Tweet This)

The country and pop star's newest album became the fastest to hit 5 million U.S. sales since 2004, Billboard reported, citing Nielsen Music.

Swift's album reached the milestone on its 36th week of release, which ended July 5, the report said. Usher's "Confessions" topped 5 million in only its 19th week in August 2004, Billboard said.

The report also said that "1989" is the first album to top the 5-million mark since Adele's "21" in 2011.
