Tim Hortons abruptly closed 21 restaurants ahead of the holiday season, according to reports.
On Wednesday, the chain shuttered 15 locations in Central New York after notifying locations a day earlier, a source told NewsChannel 9.
Meanwhile, the Restaurant Brands International unit shuttered an additional six locations in Maine, thePortland Press Herald reported.
In an emailed statement, the company told CNBC, "In line with our vision to deliver a great guest experience while building and strengthening the Tim Hortons brand, we continuously review the performance of our restaurants. As we build the foundation for accelerated growth in the U.S., we have decided to close some restaurants in New York and Maine. We are supporting our restaurant owners in their transition and remain excited about the opportunities to expand the iconic Tim Hortons brand in the U.S."
Tim Hortons did not confirm how many locations it closed.
