Arby’s tinkers with famous fries for first time

Arby's launched a new take on its signature curly fries Monday for the first time since their debut more than 25 years ago.

The chain's new fries come with cheddar cheese sauce, chopped pepper bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, and parmesan peppercorn ranch sauce.

Available nationwide, the loaded fries sell for $2.99 or as a part of a 2 for $5 deal with select other menu items. The new dish debuts amid the height of the football season, as NFL playoffs begin and college teams battle in various bowl games.

Arby's is the latest fast food giant to push the fry frontier.

Earlier this year, Carl's Jr. made headlines when it tested fries topped with pepperoni slices, parmesan marinara sauce and melted mozzarella. At Wendy's, the chain's current jazzed-up version is topped with swiss gruyere cheese sauce and smoked bacon. Wendy's previously went whole hog on the trend with fries topped with pulled pork.
