Social media platform Twitter restored service Tuesday afternoon after an earlier outage left website visitors receiving a message telling them that "something is technically wrong".
Mobile users had also noted that the service was failing to update. In a statement, Twitter said a change to internal code caused issues between 3:40 and 9:50 a.m. ET.
By 1 p.m. ET, it reverted the change, fixing the problem.
Tweetdeck, Twitter's social media dashboard, had also been down for many users.
The issue affected users across the globe, with subscribers in the U.K. and India reporting problems. The website downdetector.com suggested the outage started around 8 a.m. GMT.
