Tesla's signature sedan is getting a facelift.
The electric vehicle maker on Tuesday confirmed the details of a 2017 Model S refresh, after images leaked online.
The vehicle's front end, including the headlights, has been redesigned to have a profile similar to the Model X electric SUV. That means the old, oval-shape front grille is going away, with the new-look Model S featuring a front bumper that stays with the same color as the car's body.
Above it, the Tesla logo stands out in a smaller, thinner front grille, where the hood meets the front bumper.
Among other changes going into the Model 3:
• A HEPA air filtration system the company says is 100 times more effective than other premium automotive filters.
• An upgraded charger that allows for faster charging from certain sources.
• Two new interior decor choices: Figured Ash Wood Decor and Dark Ash Wood Decor.
Tesla fans had been anticipating the redesign for weeks. But one upgrade that many had been hoping for will not be offered in the redesigned Model S. A number of enthusiasts were hoping Tesla would start selling a Model S with a 100kWh battery, which would allow for greater range than the biggest battery currently offered, which has 90kWh.
The changes will go into production at the automaker's Fremont, California, factory Tuesday.
