With the campaign starting its final sprint to the Nov. 8 election, Donald Trump clawed back support to edge past Hillary Clinton by 2 points among likely voters in a CNN/ORC Poll on Tuesday.
The nationwide poll said Trump was leading Clinton by 45 percent to 43 percent, but the spread was well within the 3.5-point margin of error.
Libertarian Gary Johnson was favored by 7 percent and the Green Party's Jill Stein got 2 percent, CNN said.
In an early-August CNN/ORC Poll, Clinton held an 8-point lead over Trump.
Neither the Trump nor Clinton campaigns responded to CNBC's requests for comment.
