Former presidential candidate Ben Carson hinted on Wednesday that he has accepted a Trump administration post, saying "an announcement is forthcoming about my role in helping to make America great again."

It has been reported that Carson is in line to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In a Wednesday morning Facebook post, Carson said that "after serious discussions with the Trump transition team, I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly to making our inner cities great for everyone." Carson dropped out of the Republican presidential race in March, and soon after threw his support behind Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, the president-elect tweeted that he was "seriously considering" the retired neurosurgeon for HUD secretary.

@realDonaldTrump: I am seriously considering Dr. Ben Carson as the head of HUD. I've gotten to know him well--he's a greatly talented person who loves people!

Considering Carson's background in medicine, it is not entirely clear what experience he has with housing and urban development policy. Historically, HUD secretaries have had some experience in governing urban areas.

Carson confidante Armstrong Williams tweeted Wednesday afternoon that Trump is considering Carson for a cabinet post and that the retired neurosurgeon is "seriously considering" the role.

@Arightside: @RealDonaldTrump is considering @RealBenCarson for a cabinet post. Dr. Carson is prayerfully & seriously considering. How humbling!

Last week, Williams told NBC News that Carson felt he would best serve in a role outside of the government because of his lack of experience. The confidante said, however, that Carson would "show respect and take seriously" any offer if Trump felt no one else could do what Carson could do.
