Spring cleaning is child's play compared with the projects many homeowners are planning.
More than half of homeowners plan to continue or start remodeling this spring, according to a new survey from design and remodeling inspiration site Houzz. The site polled 95,920 of its users (who, arguably, are more inclined than the general population to undertake such projects).
Project costs can vary widely based on factors including the room size, scope of the project, local prices for materials and whether homeowners opt to hire a pro or go the do-it-yourself route. Based on Houzz data on 2016 projects, here's how much time and money you can expect to spend on popular projects:
Kitchen
Homeowners who did a remodel/addition: 31 percent
Average spend: $19,100 (up from $18,900 in 2015)
Average time spent planning: 7.7 months
Average time spent in construction: 5 months
Master bathroom
Homeowners who did a remodel/addition: 23 percent
Average spend: $11,700 (up from $11,300 in 2015)
