GoPro's promise of easier storytelling has arrived with the new lineup of Hero5 cameras and a cloud-based subscription software service, Chairman and CEO Nick Woodman told CNBC on Monday.

GoPro is creating "an end-to-end storytelling solution," Woodman said, promising "a lot more innovation" ahead.

The next iterations of GoPro's actions cameras, the Hero5 Black and the more compact Hero5 Session, went on sale on Sunday for $399 and $299, respectively.

The Hero5 Black features include a 2-inch touch display on the back of the device, video resolutions up to 4K at 30 frames per second, 12-megapixel photos, and waterproof without a housing up to 33 feet.

The Hero5 Session, with its cube-shaped design, offers many of the same specifications as the Black for a less expensive price point but no display monitor.

The cloud service, called GoPro Plus, also came online in the United States on Sunday at the cost of $4.99 per month after a free trial. Other markets will be added next year.

"GoPro plus and the Hero5 lineup finally make it easy for our customers to go out and capture their life, and when they come and plug their Hero5 in to charge, it can automatically offload their photos and videos to the cloud," Woodman said.

GoPro Plus makes it "easy later to access that footage" and "make a quick edit using our Quik app" and then share it, he added.

GoPro shares have lost nearly a third of their value from the 2014 initial public offering price of $24 per share. But in the past six months, the stock was up about 40 percent.

Woodman said he's optimistic about the future. "I think it's going to be an exciting fourth quarter for GoPro for all of our fans and investors as we see our customers adopt GoPro's easy storytelling solutions," he said.

In addition to the cameras, the first drone from GoPro, Karma, was also announced at the same event last month, Karma, which goes on sale Oct. 23, will sell for $799 without a camera, as well as $999 bundled with a Hero5 Session and $1,099 with a Hero5 Black.

"It starts with the camera and then includes accessories like Karma. Karma is much more than a drone. You can remove the stabilizer from the drone and plug it into the handgrip that comes with Karma," he said.

"Drones will continue to become less expensive as technology improves. And it's important that GoPro make this incredible experience accessible to consumers," he said. "That means keeping prices accessible."
