Las Vegas foreclosure rate down to No. 25 in US

LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas area is getting further away from its dubious title as foreclosure capital of the country.

Tracking firm RealtyTrac reports Las Vegas' foreclosure rate was No. 25 in the country during the third quarter. The ranking includes 212 metropolitan areas with more than 200,000 people.

Realtytrac reports one in every 139 housing units in Las Vegas saw some sort of foreclosure filing in the third quarter. That's down 31 percent from the previous quarter, and down 71 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

The Reno-Sparks area ranks No. 73 on the list after its third quarter foreclosure rates dropped 27 percent from the quarter earlier and 71 percent from the same time a year ago.

Cities in California fill the top seven spots on the list.
