Fiber optics maker expanding in South Carolina

DUNCAN, S.C. -- A company that makes fiber optic products is expanding its operations in South Carolina's Spartanburg County.

AFL announced Wednesday that it would invest $8.6 million to expand its presence in Duncan, creating 95 new jobs.

The company says it is planning to add a new product line to its existing facility and move about 110 current employees into a new building.

Both projects are expected to be completed by late 2013, and hiring for the new jobs will start later this year.

AFL chairman Kenny Nara says the company opted to invest more in South Carolina because of support from state and local officials.
